The Pagosa Springs area tranforms into a winter wonderland for snowshoers. With hundreds of miles of groomed and maintained trails and backcountry options every direction you go, you'll love exploring our mountains in the winter.
Nordic Loops at Coyote Hill
Coyote Hill is a great family and beginner area with three levels of grommed loops. The first level, just off the parking area, offers 3 km of beginner, groomed trails. From the main trail, skiers can continue up to the second level for an additional 3 km of intermediate terrain. The upper loop offers another 6 km of intermediate terrain and 2 km of advanced terrain. The upper loops offer stunning views of Pagosa Peak.
Trails are groomed exclusively for cross-country skiing. There is a designated, marked and groomed loop for snowshoers. Snowmobiles are prohibited on Coyote Hill.
*Ability Level signs mark the trails.
Reservoir Hill Nordic Trails
This location will no longer be groomed by the PNC. NOT Recommended for Beginners due to slope & need for speed control. This location is open to all non-motorized winter activities. Reservoir Hill provides trails interspersed with hills; some skiers walk between trail sections.
Getting there: Take U.S. 160 to downtown Pagosa Springs. Turn south at the Hot Springs Boulevard traffic light and take the second left onto San Juan Street. Look for a public parking area on the left. From the public parking area, it is a short uphill walk to the Spa Trailhead, which provides access to Reservoir Hill.
Nordic Trails at West Fork Road
With an abundance of flat, groomed and natural terrain, the West Fork area provides fantastic cross-country opportunities for beginners and families. The area offers skiers the chance to ski through stands of giant conifers, as well as scenic views of the valley floor and the headwaters of the San Juan River. Stay on the Forest Service road for a mostly flat ski experience or continue beyond the second bridge toward the Rainbow trailhead to get an uphill workout. Or proceed to the left to access a keyhole loop of undulating terrain.
