Pagosa Nordic Club Cabin Fever Nordic Race ~ Southwest Nordic Race Series @ Cloman Park

Pagosa Nordic Club is participating in the Southwest Nordic Race Series - Six events in the Four Corners / San Juan Mountain region to crown the King and Queen of Nordic Skiing in the Southwest! Three of the six featured races are scored for each racer. Score is based on finishing position (1st place = 1 point, 2nd place = 2 points, etc.). Top three finishes are averaged. Lowest average score wins!

Learn to Cross-Country Ski Clinic @ Cloman Park

These great introductory clinics for adults are held throughout the season. Skate ski and classic cross country ski basics will be shared by some of Pagosa Springs' best Nordic skiers. For adult never-evers, beginners and intermediates. Learn how to make these outdoor winter activities even more enjoyable! 10am. Free. Donations or PNC memberships encouraged. Registration required.

Winterfest 2026 - Mass Hot Air Balloon Ascensions @ Uptown in the Pagosa Lakes Area

See the balloons fill the winter sky over the Pagosa Lakes area. Grab a cup of coffee or cocoa, and come enjoy the spectacular view! Saturday & Sunday 1/17 and 1/18. Viewing starts at 8:30 am. Parking is NOT permitted on Hwy 160 to view the balloons.

Winterfest Red Ryder BB Gun Biathlon @ Yamaguchi Park

A unique, super-fun freestyle ski event in which participants can either classic or skate ski while target shooting with Red Ryder BB guns provided by the Pagosa Nordic Club. 10 seconds added for each shot missed during the race but no gun or shooting experience is needed. Parents can help the young ones cock and shoot. Kids really love this race! Prizes for the top finishers and best costumes along with participant drawing giveaways. Great fun for all ages!

Winterfest Barkus Parade! @ Town Park

Presented by Rugby's Rescue House. Get ready for a pawsitively fun day at the Barkus Parade, our annual canine costume contest! Registration and lineup begin at 9:30am, Parade at 10am. Just $10! All proceeds will go to Rugby's Rescue House, a wonderful non-profit dog rescue dedicated to helping local dogs in need. Bring your furry friends dressed in their best winter costumes and make this a day to remember!

Skis and Saddles Skijor Pagosa @ The Archuleta County Fairgrounds

Skijor Pagosa is an exhilarating adventure competition where horse and rider team up to pull a skier or snowboarder at high speeds through an obstacle course packed with jumps, gates, and rings. This thrilling event blends Pagosa Country's rich skiing heritage with its cowboy roots, creating a fast-paced spectacle that's sure to captivate the crowd. Competitors race for cash prizes, with winners determined by the quickest times. 10am-6pm. Live Music with Float Like a Buffalo 8pm.

Winterfest 2026 - Penguin Plunge @ Pagosa Springs Visitor Center

Support your favorite non-profits by raising money and plunging into the freezing cold San Juan River, or enjoy the view from the San Juan River Walk. These brave souls don't just jump in and get out, we make them REALLY plunge into the river! Registration to plunge required along with raising money for a community non-profit organization. Registration at Noon, Plunging begins at 1pm.

Sledz on Rez @ Reservoir Hill Downtown

Presented by Build Pagosa. Create a decorated sled to slide down Rez Hill. Lots of prizes will be awarded. Unsafe sleds may be disqualified. Helmets are strongly recommended. Registration at 1pm. Food, Drinks, and Fun 1-3:30pm, sledding at 2:30pm. Weather contingent.

Buckaroos Winterfest Breakfast Ride @ Buckaroos Horse-Drawn Rides

Celebrate Winterfest with a delicious breakfast and horse-drawn ride. The horses and driver will start your tour with panoramic mountain and meadow scenery on this special hot air balloon ascension morning. Then enjoy a breakfast spread of eggs and bacon, pastries, breakfast burritos, fresh fruits and coffee, accompanied with live music and view of balloons from the cozy lodge. After breakfast, the ride continues through an expansive ponderosa pine forest and returns to the starting point. 8am.

Moonrise Cross-Country Ski Social @ Cloman Park

Members and non-members welcome for these free events under the rising moon. Bring a headlamp or flashlight for back-up but be ready to turn the lights out and enjoy this fun and unique experience! At least beginner Classic cross country skiing experience required. There will be a short hill or two, but skiers are welcome to walk on the side of the groomed trail. The group will stay together. 5:30pm.
